Hackers were able to hack Windows 7 using the Calculator application

Attackers hacked Microsoft's Windows 7 operating system with a Qbot virus that masqueraded as the original Calculator application, writes SC Media.

In this way, a potential victim would receive an e-mail with a document in a ZIP archive and a Trojan inside. Once unpacked, it would be inserted into the computer and copy the view of a standard utility, which the operating system would perceive as "native" and would not see the threat.

The virus then collected the user's personal information on the computer, including passport data and bank account passwords. The bug has not been detected in other corporate systems.

On July 19, researchers from antivirus software developer ESET published the results of the study on Apple devices on the organization's blog. The experts discovered a new spyware program CloudMensis, which steals data from owners of macOS-based business computers.
